"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."

– Douglas Adams

A daughter lost

xxxxxAnna Powell was one of the last sacrifices to the Mother of Plenty. Her father was the youngest of his siblings (minus the missing Purity), so he had a little more leeway in how soon he had to make the family sacrifice. Anna's parents put it off as long as possible, bearing and raising three children. They wanted to continue putting it off, but Anna's birth was complicated and left Marie unable to have any more. Anna would be the one to be given up.

xxxxxPhilip and Marie tried to raise Anna like there was nothing wrong, but they couldn't help but keep their distance from the girl, and Anna grew to school age under the impression that parents being incapable of being truly happy around their children was a perfectly normal state of things. Grade school taught her otherwise and kicked off a decade of bad relations between the girl and her family. She acted out early, experimented first with trespassing and shoplifting, then hit her teens and moved on to religion, vandalism, drugs and sex in that order. By the time they had to pick a sacrifice, it was almost as if they were sacrificing someone who wasn't family at all. Anna noticed this too. She never forgave them.

xxxxxJust over a month later, the three older Powells escaped. Anna was still in the process of adapting to Arcadia and had no idea what was going on, but she recognized the shared plight on some deep level and followed. The human world brought with it a return of lucidity and a realization that she had been irrevocably changed — and that there were three older people (some of whom barely resembled people) claiming to be relatives she had been told were dead. Of course, then she found out that her parents had been telling everyone else that their problem child had run away. Needless to say, she wanted nothing more to do with them. She wanted this very angrily and verbosely and more than a little sulkily. She wasn't even a party to the family getting evicted from the farm and Richard from this world. She had shouted her teenage lungs out and then stormed off to wrathfully brood.

xxxxxAnna has grown up a lot in these last five years. She's still not got everything figured out, but that's par for the course for a girl her age. What she does know is that her brief time in Arcadia made her exceptionally good with her hands. She knows that doing manual work is soothing. She knows that she has a farm run by sympathetic relatives who are in a similar boat to the one she's in. What to do next...she's working on.

xxxxxAnna's face is a study of angles. Her auburn hair is worn short, cut and combed at stylish angles that vary depending on her mood, and always in contrast to her long, thin nose and slightly pointed chin. Her eyebrows and lips are full and expressive, and the contrast with the rest of her features make her dark eyes look smaller and more focused. She's a small woman, standing no more than 5'2" with limbs slightly long for her frame that make her look like she stopped growing as a teenager.

Her limbs are long and quite flexible, apparently built for getting inside things, and she has the long, delicate fingers borne by those changelings designed for precise manipulation.

Tropegasm

xxxxxAnna's a trapper girl with rebellious and mischievous tendencies, which can be used for good or deviousness. She's also a Powell, the youngest of the family, and got out of Arcadia before she was fully changed, however much she sometimes wishes otherwise.

  • If you're fae of some sort, Anna can probably see you for what you are. Her own mien is subtle, but the all-black irises are a dead giveaway that she's not quite a normal girl.
  • If you're into orchards, farms, woods, tinkering, trapping or arts and crafts, you may have bumped into Anna. She gets most of her fulfillment in life these days out of doing things with her hands, so most of her free time is spent pursuing hobbies not unlike what she does for a living.
  • If you're Autumn or interested in the Hedge, you might have interacted with Anna on the basis of similar interests.
  • Powell: Anna's the youngest, both physically and in terms of her date of birth. She doesn't mind being the youngest, as long as people treat her like the adult she's becoming, instead of the kid she looks.
  • Winter Court: Anna doesn't belong to any Court, but she proved herself recently in helping a squad of Winters capture and interrogate the Loyalists who kidnapped Portia, which earned her some Goodwill from Winter.

Abney Park - Root of all Evil

All these roots run deep,
And this tree is old.
This trunk is rotten;
All these leaves have mold.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - I Love Playing With Fire

I love playing with fire
And I don't wanna get burned.
I love playing with fire
And I don't think I'll ever learn.

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts - Bad Reputation

I'm only doin' good
When I'm havin' fun,
An' I don't have to please no one.
An' I don't give a damn
'Bout my bad reputation.
