The Possessed

And all the time the joke is that the word "Mine" in its fully possessive sense cannot be uttered by a human being about anything. In the long run either Our Father or the Enemy will say "Mine" of each thing that exists, and specially of each man.
They will find out in the end, never fear, to whom their time, their souls, and their bodies really belong—certainly not to them, whatever happens. At present the Enemy says "Mine" of everything on the pedantic, legalistic ground that He made it:
Our Father hopes in the end to say "Mine" of all things on the more realistic and dynamic ground of conquest,
Your affectionate uncle

XP Incentives:

  • Possessed - Characters from the two least populous Vices are eligible for an additional 5 XP. (Note that this only applies for Lust-vice PCs if their Lust is expressed in an manner other than overt sexuality.)
  • Possessed - Characters with American-inspired demons (drawn from native or modern North American culture) get 5 XP. This stacks with the local bonus.
  • Possessed - Characters whose demons are mostly focused on the pursuit of knowledge get 5 XP.
  • Clutches - Characters forming Clutches - formalized Demon groups similar to cabals - gain 5 XP for the first group formed/joined, either in or out of CG. The bonus will apply once the 3rd member has been approved/has joined. Also, Members of a Clutch get 1 free Level 1 Rite of a Thing for free upon joining their first Clutch. The actual dot of CoTTMNB -or- Reality B must be purchased prior to this free Rite being granted.
Mood & Feel

xxxxxThe world of The Reach is already particularly dark, terrifying, and grim: it doesn't get better when you've got a literal demon in your head, a monkey on your back that seeks to gain entrance to this world by bending you, its host, to its will. It seeks its own agenda; it seeks to use you as a pawn in internecine struggles older than the human mind can conceive.

xxxxxHold on to your soul.

What to Expect
  1. ) Your Demon Has An Agenda: We have storytellers largely specifically devoted to playing people's demons. This means your demon will speak up at times that may not always be convenient, and may have things to say that are not at all what your PC wants. Expect, love, and embrace this, and you'll have a great time playing out the internal struggle.
  2. ) Demons Have Their Own Politics: And they're not really about you. Your PC is, to your demon, most likely largely a flesh suit that it can wear about to do the things it wants to do on this plane. There are very rare exceptions to this, situations more like partnerships, but for the most part, you're little more to your demon than a very valuable pair of shoes.
  3. ) Things Want To Kill Your Demon: Which might be really unfortunate for you since it's sort of inside of you.
  4. ) Your Demon Wants You To Live... Probably.: It'll be annoying for it to have to find another way back into this world, after all.
